Taimen, lenok, pike and grayling are native species of Mongolia and these are exciting pro angling fishes.
Taimen is a valuable fish species, well appreciated especially by anglers. This is due to its large size, and its fighting behaviour during angling. They are so aggressive and will chase and attack any baitfish or lure in their zone just because it’s there. They literally want to kill it. It’s always a good idea to have 3-4 rods set up at once. You may even break a rod during your stay and it always helps to have a spare.
A special angling licence is now required to capture taimen in Mongolian waters. This is because the numbers of taimen in many water bodies have been declining. Taimen makes two migrations. In spring it migrates upstream for spawning and autumn it migrates downstream to lowland river courses. The autumn downstream migration usually starts at the end of September and it depends on water temperature and on the presence of fish on which it feeds. It is safe to say that this is one of our most consistent fisheries and is a great fishery for advanced anglers. Our walk and wade adventures allow you to cover a lot of water effectively, while enjoying the beauty and serenity of the picturesque nature surroundings.
Lenok is an exciting sport fish. They prefer the same water bodies as taimen where rivers with well-oxygenated cold and clear water. Lenok feeds on benthic organisms and on non-commercial fish such as stone loach, minnow and dace. Our local rivers have strong populations of lenok so that this fishery very popular amongst many anglers, as they can be very aggressive, scrappy fighters, and can reach lengths of over 20 inches. Also there are a definite favorite amongst beginners for an introductory species that will take the fly easily and are always plentiful.
As your trip organizer, we have done a lot of work to make your unforgettable fishing experiences to come true on the Eg river. Most of the taimen fishers agree that north-western Mongolia is incomparable to any other fishing in amount and quality of the taimen. Our experience has proved that knowledge of some basic aspects of fishing in Eg is of great use for the new fishing clients. Follow strictly the fishing regulations. Remember always to use barbless hooks (no trebles) and remember also a due treatment of the landed fish and its revival before releasing it back to the river.
